About Lord David Willetts
David Willetts is Executive Chairman of the Resolution Foundation and a Visiting Professor at King’s College London. He is Governor of the Ditchley Foundation and a member of the Council of the Institute for Fiscal Studies. In 2015 he became a member of the House of Lords.
He was Minister for Universities and Science, attending Cabinet, from 2010-2014. He was the Member of Parliament for Havant from 1992-2015. Before that David worked at HM Treasury and the Number 10 Policy Unit. He also served as Paymaster General in the last Conservative Government.
David has written widely on economic and social policy. His recent books include Left Out, Left Behind. 2003;Old Europe? Demographic Change and Pension Reform. 2003;The Pinch: How the Baby Boomers Took Their Children’s Future – And Why They Should Give It Back. 2010.
In the speech Lord David Willetts will begin by reviewing the history and structure of higher education in England which is more unusual than is recognised. He would then turn to future challenges notably the globalisation of higher education. The final section would be specifically on China/UK collaboration in higher education.
